Step One - Generation
About half of the electricity in Alberta is generated through coal-fired plants.

Step Two - Delivery
There are two steps in the delivery process:
  a. Transmission
  b. Distribution
Electricity is sent from generating plants over high-voltage transmission lines to local transformers that reduce the voltage level. This process is referred to as transmission of electricity. 

Step Three - Retail
A retailer sells the electricity to the end customer.

Statistics

An important objective of electricity restructuring is the development of a competitive generation market. Over 4,400 megawatts (MW) of new generation has been added to the Alberta power supply since 1998 and an additional 7,200 MW of power has been proposed by industry for future development. Prices
